Daily Devotions.

Daily Devotions.

Try and set aside at least 5 to 10 minutes a day for some form of devotional to your Patron Deities, Ancestors and Spirits. Devotionals can take place at various times of the day dependant upon your Traditions and your personal preferences Some of these may include:

  • Sunrise Solar  Devotion: (God Devotional)

You may like to build a special outside Altar for this and give a daily offering, by placing food, flowers, gifts, etc. on the Altar. To perform this Ritual, place your Offering on your Solar Altar and stand in the God position, (feet together, arms crossed over your chest right over left - left hand should be held thumb between the centre of your fingers, right hand should be held thunb pressed against palm two middle fingers down over thumb, remaining two fingers straight up) facing the rising sun. Ground and center yourself, and breathe deeply, allowing your mind to move into a meditative state. Focus on the energy of the sun as it grows, as the sunlight breaks over your body and touches your skin, you may choose to say your devotional in a manner such as this:

"Blessed Sky Father, I thank you for your light that warms both my body and soul, I leave this offering as a symbol of my devotion to you, may I be Blessed in your Light, so mote it be!"

You may then bow to the sun and go about your daily routine.

  • Break-fast Devotion: (Elemental Devotional)

You may like to build an Elemental Shrine either in your Temple or Outside to perform this Rite, it doesnt need to be elaborate, it can be as simple as a large rock, with a seashell placed upon it, a candle and a small flag stuck in the ground beside it. I generally just kneel beside my shire with my toast and coffee (no sips or bites before the devotion), I say the following (you may like to design your own ritual);

"Sacred Spirits of Fire, I bless you for your fire to cook my meals, Sacred Spirits of Earth, I thank you for the bounty you provide for my meals, Sacred Spirits of Water, I thank you for the water that I use both to create my meals and within it, Sacred Spirit of Air I thank you for the breath I have to speak these words (break of a piece of your meal and pour a libation from your drink"

Then sit and enjoy the outdoors as you consume your meal.

  • Collecting Devotions.

You should never take anything without asking permission and giving thanks, as Pagans we never take anything for granted. Always leave an offering to the Spirits of the plant or rock, or the Spirits of the area. This may be a stone, a few drops of honey, a feather, a shell, some corn, some wheat, or a silver coin, or whatever you have- just remember the common practice is to leave something from an element they are missing from their fivefold nature (eg. a rock may appreciate a feather to connect it with air).

If you are removing a living section of something such as a plant then the offering should be some of your hair (You may choose to save your hair, after having your hair cut for this purpose, store it in a special pouch or box specifically for offerings or other spell workings - I generally just cut off a snip at the time, but choose what will work for you).

"Spirit of the great trees, of sand, rock, leaf and flower,
I ask of your to share your yield, to lend me a touch of your power.
I'll take only that, which I need and I'll give back that which I take
and My oath, only good will come from your gift with the magick I make,
So Mote It Be!"

  • Moon Rise Devotion: (Goddess Devotional)

You may like to build a special outside Altar for this and give a daily offering, by placing food, flowers, gifts, etc. on the Altar. To perform this Ritual, place your Offering on your Lunar Altar and stand in the Goddess position, (feet apart, arms out from either side shoulder height, palms facing upwards) facing the rising sun. Ground and center yourself, and breathe deeply, allowing your mind to move into a meditative state. Focus on the energy of the sun as it grows, as the sunlight breaks over your body and touches your skin, you may choose to say your devotional in a manner such as this:

"Blessed Moon Mother, I thank you for your light that guides me through the darkness, I leave this offering as a symbol of my devotion to you, may I be Blessed in your Light, so mote it be!"

You may then bow to the moon and go about your evening routine.

  • Bedtime Devotion

This may be said as a bedtime prayer, or as a prequel to any sleep workings (dream walking, Astral Travel etc)

"Five Spirits round my bed, Five spirits to guide my rest, Fire to warm me,  Air to cool me, Earth to cradle me, Water to soothe me and Spirit to watch over me as I walk in the otherlands, so mote it be!"
